The idea for Retenly.com came to me while working in FinTech at Canary Wharf. I needed to provide high-quality data for Compliance and B2B sales. However, I found that Company House data was difficult to use, and many existing projects didn't focus on data quality. I also needed to find and process international trade data, which proved to be another challenge. Data providers often sell raw data without ensuring its quality.
To address these issues, I decided to create a project for my friends in the British FinTech sector who work in sales or Compliance. Over six months, I cleaned and refined Company House data. I also solved the problem of tracking persons with significant control. Unlike directors, you can't click on these individuals on the Company House website, making it hard to trace ownership chains. I resolved this issue, and on retenly.com, you can easily see ownership structures by clicking on the owners' names.
Next, I integrated UK import and export data. Although not complete, this data helps find business partners in specific industries. Matching Company House and UK trade data by company name was challenging. Owners often use abbreviations like Ltd instead of Limited, and companies can change names. Retenly.com's algorithms account for these factors, ensuring accurate matches for all import and export data on company pages.
Today, Retenly automatically updates data every night. Ensuring data quality is our top priority. We use the latest data engineering technologies and rigorously test every step. Now, we have a complete mirror of Company House and UK trade data, allowing users to work with it directly, like a regular database. We are currently offering access to a closed beta version of Retenly.
